Sanjay Vin, MD, is a board-certified cancer specialist.
Dr. Vin earned his Medical Oncology and Hematology training from the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, SUNY Buffalo, New York; Roswell Park is one of the few select institutions such as MD Anderson to be part of the NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) alliance. Dr.Vin was drawn to Oncology, during his residency training rotation in Oncology at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, MD. He was impressed by the depth and intensity of research in the field; he saw it as a privilege to be able to help patients and their families cope with cancer.
Dr. Vin also holds a Assistant Professor faculty position at Texas A&M University, Health Science Center.
Awards & Research
Dr. Vin was one of four Oncology fellows in the country to receive the Mayo Clinic Fellow Award for his research presentation.
He was awarded the Fellow Grant for the International Society for Gastrointestinal Oncology.
He was a member of Sigma Xi: Non-profit Scientific Research honor society and is currently a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Dr. Vin has trained in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at University of North Texas, Fort Worth, TX, for one year, then moved to University of Florida, Jacksonville, Florida, to conduct research in angiogenesis, alpha (V) beta 3, an endothelial marker in retinal disease.
Dr. Vin has published a medical book and over 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and presentations at national conferences. He has been a principal investigator in clinical trials, including NSABP-5 and NSABP-B47.
He has served in the cancer committee at St.Davids Medical Center and has played active role in COC (commission on cancer) accreditation. Before joining Austin cancer center, Dr. Vin practiced at Essential Health, where he was the chair of the cancer committee and was involved in cancer care improvement projects in Breast and Colon cancer patients; with a focus on reducing time from breast surgery to initiation of adjuvant treatment, improving hormone therapy compliance; working with surgeons to improve surgical staging in colon and lung cancer.
Dr. Vin treats patients with all types of cancer, with a special focus on Breast, Lung and Gastrointestinal malignancies.
