Matthew McCurdy, MD, PhD, DABR, is board-certified in both radiation oncology and integrative oncology, and treats all types of cancer.
Dr. McCurdy graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering, which led to a job as project manager for NASA, where he worked on John Glenn’s second space journey. He completed his medical school and residency training at Baylor College of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. Dr. McCurdy received a PhD in bioengineering from Rice University through the MD/PhD program funded by the National Institutes of Health.
Awards & Research
Dr. McCurdy has published extensively on novel radiation oncology treatments, and has presented talks at many national meetings. He has received numerous awards including the prestigious Outstanding Research Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Young Oncologist Award from the American Radium Society, and the Roentgen Research Award from the American College of Radiology. The International Association of Radiologists named him a Top Doctor in 2013.
Teaching and Community Outreach
Dr. McCurdy is the leading integrative oncologist in Central Texas and is an asset to both the public and medical community by hosting talks and publishing articles, focusing on complementary and alternative forms of care during cancer treatment. He has provided formal CME (continuing medical education) courses to health care professionals on integrative oncology, nutrition, and environmental risk factors for cancer. In 2017 he was invited to give the Integrative Oncology lecture to the UT College of Pharmacy at its 65th annual Pharmacy Practice Seminar. To provide the Austin community with cancer information and personally answer questions, Dr. McCurdy has spoken to local civic organizations and companies. He is also a featured contributor on integrative oncology to the Austin edition of Natural Awakenings.
Dr. McCurdy serves on several boards and committees including the Breast Cancer Resource Center Board, and the Radiosurgical Research Institute where he is a Scientific Advisor Board Member. He holds several committee positions in the Society of Integrative Oncology, serves on the Seton Network Cancer Committee, St. David’s Cancer Committee, and is a Member-at-Large of the Texas Radiological Society Radiation Oncology Section. Dr. McCurdy is also an active member of the Livestrong Cancer Institute, the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, the American Association of Radiation Oncology, the Texas Medical Association, and the Travis County Medical Society.

More About Dr. McCurdy
Dr. McCurdy enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He is a former elite triathlete and competed in the Ironman World Championship. Currently focusing on marathons, he placed in the top 100 in the Boston Marathon and fifth in the Austin Marathon. He enjoys trumpeting, singing, and piano. Dr. McCurdy has also sung with the Houston Symphony Chorus, and the Bach Choir of Houston.
